The Exhibition Venue

Fiera Milano Rho

Between the towns of Rho and Pero, on the site of an Agip refinery that was closed down in the early nineties, stands the new Fiera di Milano exhibition center, open since 2005. This center is located, like the previous one, along the northwest corridor, near the many traffic arteries linking Milan with Turin and Varese.

The design of the facility was entrusted to Massimiliano and Doriana Fuksas, who created a 1300-meter long moving walkway covered by a glass and steel “sail,” passing among the eight pavilions with twenty exhibition spaces. In addition to the facilities for trade show events, Fiera Milano also has a convention center, a restaurant, several snack bars, pizzerias, fast-food restaurants, and such other shops and basic services as a pharmacy, a bank, and a security force.

When Milan was selected to host the 2015 World Expo, Fiera Milano became the Official Partner of Operations, one of the driving forces in the planning of the events and the creation of the spaces that make up Expo 2015.

Milan in a nutshell

  • Milan has the most skyscrapers in Italy.
  • During the Austrian rule of Milan, the city became the focal point of opera. Mozart gave three premier performances, from the stage of Teatro Regio Ducal.
  • Teatro alla Scala is the largest opera house in Europe – each performance can be enjoyed simultaneously by over 2,000 spectators.
  • The Milan Cathedral is the 5th largest cathedral in the world. Construction began in 1386 and continued for over 600 years. Duomo wasn’t completed until 1965.
  • The church of Santa Maria delle Grazie is made famous by the fact that it houses the original painting “The Last Supper”, by Leonardo da Vinci.
  • Every night, from 7 PM to 9 PM it is time for aperitivo in Milan. Bars and cafes offer huge spreads of food after purchasing a beverage.
  • Milan also has canals – in the Navigli district. They were built to aid the transportation of goods from the local lakes.
