Alstom’s competence in producing high-speed trains will reach its apex during the 3 days of EXPO Ferroviaria: the new Pendolino Italo train will be presented to a trade audience for the first time.
Designed and manufactured for NTV at Alstom’s plant in Savigliano (CN), a 4.0 industry smart factory highly specialised in the production of high-speed trains, this train represents the evolution of the Pendolino fleet, synonymous with reliability and high performance as well as great elegance.
The futuristic front end is designed to guarantee a high level of protection for the driver in the event of a crash and enhanced aerodynamic performances.
Built with recyclable materials and created in line with ecological sustainability criteria, this “green” train aims to reduce CO2 emissions into the atmosphere. Its distributed traction system increases efficiency and enhances braking energy recovery. The 187-metre train is formed of seven coaches, able to accommodate 480 passengers, and is designed to run at up to 250 km/h. Pendolino Italo is compatible with the latest 2014 Technical Specifications for Interoperability (TSI), standards and conditions set by the European Union.
The first trains will come into operation from December 2017, increasing Italo's network with new frequencies and destinations. Pendolino will fit perfectly with the fleet of 25 AGVs, state-of-the-art trains with the same traction system, an example of which on 3 April 2007 established the world railway record speed of 574.8 km/h.
