EXPO FERROVIARIA 2017: MILAN’S RECORD-BREAKING EDITION06 Oct 2017
EXPO Ferroviaria is the showcase for rail technologies, products and systems and its record-breaking eighth edition, held for the first time in Milan, closed yesterday in Rho Fiera. It exceeded all expectations: 7,900 visitors attended the three days in Milan, among them engineers, managers and executives. The international flavour of the exhibition was reflected in the large number of foreign visitors from 59 countries, who made up around 13% of the total number, and in the delegations of foreign rail operators from Albania, Tanzania, Vietnam, Croatia, South Africa and Macedonia.
The other new feature of this edition also attracted a large number of visitors: around 500 professionals visited the outdoor display area of Fiorenza Trenord, the largest maintenance facility in Italy, featuring the presentation by Alstom of the new Pendolino Evo, yet another development in the famous family of trains, produced by NTV – Nuovo Trasporto Viaggiatori [New Passenger Transport] and CZ Loko’s EffiShunter 1000 locomotive. Inside the exhibition hall, Alstom also presented the 1:1 scale mock-up of the new regional transport train “Pop” which will be constructed in Savigliano and produced by Trenitalia.
The sector’s only event in Italy saw companies exhibit the latest technological and railway innovations in Exhibition Hall 2 in Rho Fiera, Milan, which played host to the sector’s main multinationals and major companies in record numbers: 305 exhibitors from 19 countries, 86 of whom were there for the first time and 71 exhibiting companies from Lombardy.
The exhibition opened with a round table attended by the Minister of Transport Graziano Delrio, the President of ASSIFER and Vice-President of ANIE Maurizio Manfellotto, the Councillor for Infrastructure and Mobility in the Region of Lombardy Alessandro Sorte, the Councillor for Mobility and Environment in the Municipality of Milan, Marco Granelli, the CEO of Ferrovie dello Stato Italiano, Renato Mazzoncini, and the CEO of Trenord, Cinzia Farisé.
The conferences held over the three days received great public acclaim. They included a conference on the theme “The internationalisation of the rail market: the challenges of the FS group”, hosted by Ferrovie dello Stato Italiane in collaboration with the Collegio Ingegneri Ferroviari Italiani [Association of Italian Railway Engineers] – CIFI, a conference entitled “Regional Lines and Urban Nodes.
